Update: Guess what, Tekken 8 is out now and man it hits hard the (one) set round! Literally.
Stunning Visuals and Heat System Mechanics
It also features some beautiful visuals, as you can experience so once you boot it up. They are all graphically clean enough that you would be forgiven to think this was 4K unseen greatness on your TV set.
The new Heat System? Without giving too much away it is the equivalent of converting your fighter into a turbo charged monster. Not until you press that Heat Mode button, and suddenly it’s like night-and-day — faster moves, new combos while dealing exponentially more damage.
You go from sipping coffee to banging back 5 hated Red Bulls all at once. The best part? The aggression can continue, as your assaults elongate the duration of Heat Mode. Tekken 8 really wants you to never give up.
Welcoming Newcomers with Special Controls

New players rejoice! Tekken 8 introduces Special Control Mode, allowing you to execute elaborate strings without memorizing complex commands.
Veterans, don’t worry. The game accommodates you, too, with the ability to switch back to classic controls mid-fight. It’s as if Tekken 8 says, “I’ve got your back, but I dare you to flex!” It’s as if the game itself is like, “I got you covered but also… just kidding I dare you”.
Returning Classics and Improved Accessibility
All the classics are returning, such as King and combos have been streamlined (though many will be pleased to hear you don’t need a doctorate in button pressing but they haven’t “been simplified” by just sticking four together for EXAMPLE). The King with his Reverse Arm Slam transporter?
And it just got a whole lot more accessible with one button. Hallelujah for that! All thrown with 100%, pure unassisted skill and no more twisted fingers pretending to use pro wrestling tactics.
We also need to say that the command lists have been greatly improved because of this change. They provide insight and ultra-useful tips to get you ahead. Seems like Tekken, rather belatedly being a bro.
A Fresh Iterative Improvement
In the end, Tekken 8 seems like an iterative improvement. It plays like the adrenaline-grabbing madness we are all familiar with, but has just about enough in new goodies to keep it deliciously fresh.
I think it’s fair to say after hitting up this game, that I am then going go and stop button-mashing for losing skill…might.
